General Conference
Hey, y'all hope you had a good conference!! If you didn't watch it...repent and don't read this until you have watched it so you don't feel guilty ๐Ÿ˜‰ I got my eyes opened this week as to how lucky we are back in Utah to be able to just watch conference and hear the word of God just right there in our language and whenever we want! In Togo, all the wards in the country meet at the stake center in Kage to watch conference because it is the only church building with wifi. I don't know if this is how it is around the world in other countries but we only met on Sunday to watch 3 sessions because it is too big of a deal and too much money for everyone to travel 2 days in a row. Our ward rented a bus to take people over but it cost money to rent so it was really sad to see not everyone or just parts of families be able to go because they couldn't afford the transport. Most wards came in buses from up north as well and they PACKED these buses full!! It was really humbling to see members who only spoke ewe or not very much French at all come even though they would not be able to understand anything that was being said cause it is only translated into France French (which has a really thick accent). Everyone!! Listen up! Believe me when I tell you that it is a blessing to be able to sit 8 hours in a chair (or sleep, yeaaaa you know who you are hehe๐Ÿ˜‰) and listen to the words of modern prophets and apostles 'cause before I definitely did not realize that a whole lot of people in other countries throughout the world don't have the chance to hear it, even if they want to!!
Gathering to watch General Conference
Quick story - this week we this ami that we have been teaching for a long time but hasn't been progressing because of a problem with the dote. She has a mother named Dovi who was staying with her the last couple weeks and has always been there but we were teaching her daughter and she speaks only ewe so we never talked to her. Anyway, a week ago when here daughter was sick we decided just to teach her mother cause we happened to have a member to interpret for us! She is the sweetest and nicest old lady, She came to church and she lead the first lesson almost in its order by just her awesome questions she had!! She was asking questions about the modern-day prophet and when she could hear him before we got through explaining prophets!! We invited her to be baptized in that lesson because she said she already knows that this is the true church. The only problem was that she was headed back up to a village where there isn't the church 2 days later. We told her we didn't know when the church would get up there but we promised her that she would have the opportunity to be baptized. We Gave her a book of Mormon and all the pamphlets and she said she would find someone up there to translate for her (Cause they are all in French). But it made me think. What if we had talked to her when we first met her!? She could have probably been baptized or taken most of the lessons but she missed that because we didn't open our mouths!!! So y'all. Don't do this, ok. Learn from my mistake. Open your mouths 'cause you don't who God has already prepared!
Love yall! Elder Briggs
