The Tower of Babel was in Africa . . . 100% convinced!

June 3, 2019

First week down as a trainer! Wow. Ok, so, correction from last email - he is not Ghanian, he is Nigerian! His name is Elder Udo- Bassey and I couldn't have been more blessed to get this guy. He is hands down one of the humblest elders I've met and has the biggest desire to serve everyone around him and learn the mission language. He doesn't know any French at all and barely any English because he spoke a native language back in Nigeria, so we've spoken mostly in sign language :') I know firsthand what they felt like at the tower of Babel. Most of our conversations consist of more hand motions than words and with how confused we get with each other it usually just ends up in laughing and a bunch of "Yes, yes, yes," even though were still both completely confused and have no idea what the other person wants. So we've decided to try and leave any English we knew and just go straight to French and he has progressed a lot in just 1 week!
Elder Udo Bassey day 1!

We have been doing a lot of finding this week because we dropped a bunch of investigators that weren't progressing, and we have definitely seen the hand in the Lord. In our mission it is kinda weird because most of the time we're not finding people or contacting tons of people on the roads because we usually always have full days of teaching and can find contacts from the members and friends of our amis. With that sometimes it's easy to feel like we're not having a ton of experiences where "we were knocking doors and found a golden ami" or "God told us to go down this street and knock on this door" experiences which to be honest was what I was expecting it to be like on a mission. So lately we have been praying and asking God for more of these experiences where we are directly directed by the spirit and, wow, have I seen a difference!
Found the end of our sector! Sector ends where water starts @missionary manual 😏

I had a cool experience of that the other day when we had a rendevous fall through and so we made a plan to go visit someone but decided we would do whatever the spirit directed us to do. As we were walking to the ami's house we had planned to visit we passed this man and both said "bonsoir" which is what everyone does. As we passed him we had a pounding impression to go and talk to him and it was as if our feet were stopped in place. After thinking a minute and trying to push it off we ran this guy down and it was the coolest thing. Our mouths were filled with a message that was different than anything we would ever say, and it was like a direct message from God to this man! At the end we told him that that was the personal message that God had given to him and just waited. He looked at us and said, "I want to visit your church." So, we exchanged brochures and numbers, but it was such a testimony builder to me that God is there to guide us when we are there to be guided by him and we can be instruments to touch people's individual lives.
Love y'all! Elder Briggs

His name is Stephano... and Stephany if it's a girl.
