Nigerian National Anthem

February 25, 2019

This week we continued teaching one of our amis (friends) named seur Augustine. She is HILARIOUS! She is from Nigeria and speaks English (but is crazy hard to understand cause its Nigerian English). It's kind of weird 'cause we are teaching her husband, too, but he speaks French, so we have to have 2 separate lessons for them. Anyways, she comes to church every week and wants to change her life and get baptized, but it's a struggle getting through the lessons 'cause that lady can talk!! For example, if we ask her "do you think god loves you?" she will talk for the next 15 minutes! So, we finally decided that we just have to talk and teach the whole lesson, and then at the end we will give her time to talk and ask questions. Well, we were in a rendevous (appointment) and its already rough trying to understand what she is saying, but we were teaching her how to pray and I told her "Ok, we are going to start by addressing our father in heaven." She started reciting the prayer "father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, etc." Well, we were trying to stop her and then she stood up and recited the whole thing from start to finish, then turned to us and said, "That is the Nigerian Nation Anthem." Funniest thing in the world. She used to be in voodoo and stuff as a kid but wants to leave all that behind. She told us she used to work every Sunday because she was so worried about money but since we started teaching her, she has decided that God will bless her more if she is at church, even though she is desperately in need of money. She is a great example of faith to me. Of putting the outcome in God's hands and trusting that he will bless us when he has asked us to keep a commandment. Sorry, not much time this week but the pics will sum it up better than words can!

Love y'all!

We were having a party and Sr. Bienvenue who we baptized She was super super nice and when she walked in, she handed me this Bumba outfit! I thought there was no way it was going to fit but she told me to go put it on. So, I did, and it fit perfectly! I was so confused how she knew all the measurements!! Turns out during that week when we were having a rendevous with her she had the guy who made it come over. We thought he just came to cut coconuts but, apparently, he just came to take one look at me and then he went and made the bumba! I've got some big respect for Africans sewing skills. One look and made it perfect!

This is one of those huge trees you've seen on African films! It's insane how huge they get!! Our ami was telling us that this one was over 200 years old or somewhere around there.

Best PJs Award goes to this cute girl!
